State Representative Tom Morrison (R-Palatine) released the following statement after Governor JB Pritzker issued a mask mandate for K-12 Illinois schools this fall:
“Governor Pritzker continues to abuse his executive order authority with yet another 30-day order related to COVID-19. This go-it-alone approach violates constitutional checks and balances, public input, and local control.
Our local school districts are closest to parents, students, and educators and are capable of deciding what is best for their respective communities. I supported the decisions of some of our local school boards to enact mask optional policies.
I urge Illinois residents to contact the Governor’s office and demand that this order be rescinded. I renew my support for a new state law to require legislative input and super majority legislative approval of any governor’s repeat executive orders beyond the 30 days outlined in current state law.”
